Former Daily Mirror head of pictures Ian Down has joined a new picture agency which has launched in London with a ten-strong team.
Down left the Mirror in November last year after 25 years with the title.
Silverhub was launched last week by former Getty Images chief operating officer Nick Evans-Lombe and the head of Getty Images editorial division Adrian Murell. The management team also includes Ulli Michel, Marc Webbon, Lucien Wynn and Laura Ronchi.
The agency owns Action Press, a press photography agency that was established in Hamburg more than 40 years ago; The Picture Library, which is home to the photographs of celebrity photographer Alan Davidson and Offside, a sports photography outlet.
A spokesman for SilverHub said the start-up was financed with private capital and will add more photographers and collections over the next few months as it builds its offerings.
Down said: “I’m struck by the sheer passion for photography across the team. We have a shared vision for how we want to work with clients, helping them out more and keeping lines of communication open. These are simple but personal touches that can get a bit lost in the digital age, so it’s really refreshing to be involved.”
Nick Evans-Lombe said: “Ian is a fantastic addition to our growing team. As a highly experienced picture editor he knows what works and will help us to meet the needs of our customers in an evolving media landscape. He will help our customers to maximise their impact, and help us to provide new solutions for customers, content owners and story tellers alike.”
Last month Press Gazette launched on another major new picture agency launch. Founder of Splash News and Pictures Kevin Smith has teamed up with forer senior director of Getty Images Tom Tramborg to launch the Mega Agency.
